Environmental awareness and local governments: The case of Eskişehir Tepebaşı Municipality

Life on Earth is in danger due to environmental problems caused by humans. Therefore, it is necessary for the society to have environmental awareness in order to prevent environmental problems and guarantee the life of future generations. Considering environmental facts and institutional qualities, municipalities stand out among local governments in raising environmental awareness. In this study, the impact of municipalities on environmental awareness is discussed through the example of Eskişehir Tepebaşı Municipality using the document analysis method. First, necessary information was given about Eskişehir and Eskişehir Tepebaşı Municipality, which were the subject of the research. Then, Tepebaşı Municipality's efforts to raise environmental awareness were explained. Finally, the work of Tepebaşı Municipality was evaluated. According to the findings, Tepebaşı Municipality sets a good example for raising environmental awareness with its works on various themes. However, there are infrastructure deficiencies regarding sustainable transportation.
