Cevri Ibrahim Celebi and his text Hilye-i Çihar-Yar-ı Güzin

Although 17th century seems a regression period on social and administrativelife for Ottoman Empire, it is a known fact that the ascension continued inarchitecture, music, poetry, geography, history, and bibliography fields thanks todistinguished intellectuals grown up under the auspices of especially sultans who areat the same time poets.Cevrû brahim Çelebû is an important person who acquired a reputation andmade a name for himself by being a penman and poet in the first half of this century.Cevrû made his living as a clerk in divan in the beginning and soon quitting hisduty he made a living by penmanship.In Cevrû?s works, reaching his maturity with stern religious orders of Jalal al-Din al-Rûmû, it is clear that he was inspired by dervish lodges of the mysticism thathe was related to.He composed several works in the style of versification types of DûvanLiterature such as; ghazals, encomiums, terkûb-i bent, tercûh-û bent, mesnevû,historical verses and natural verses.In Hilye-i Cihâr-Yâr-ı Güzûn, Cevrû after joinder, eulogy and preamble, praisesthe four caliphs with poems after describing them shortly in prose in Arabic. Inconclusion part of his mesnevi, Cevrû states his aim telling that ?I desired to acquiregood deed in the world by praising the prophet and his caliphs.
