Abstract (EN)
Strengthening and retrofitting of reinforced concrete (RC) members by using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) is a widely used technique and became the focal point of many experimental studies. CFRP material is frequently used especially for the strengthening of the beams. Many experimental studies performed on beam strengthening with application of CFRP that is used against shear cracks commonly. Shear failure is one of the failure modes especially avoided at the design stage. However, experimental studies require more financial resources and especially laboratory facilities. More financial resources and time is needed in order to carry out the comprehensive experimental studies at which every kind of parameters are investigated. For these reasons, the amount of data that is required for reaching generalized results and investigate parameters that are not tested, a confirmed finite element model by using experimental results can be used. For this purpose, previous experimental study results are used at which ?T? cross-sectioned RC beams with insufficient shear strength is strengthened with CFRP. The same specimens are modeled by using ANSYS finite element program. Firstly, finite element modeling of the tested RC beams performed and then the results are investigated whether the obtained results are complying with the experimental results or not. As a result, the finite element model is verified. Later, analyses of the cases at which no test results are available are done by using the verified model. For example, these new analyses can be used for determining the optimum CFRP strip spacing. The aim is to increase the data for the selected parameter. As a final step, the CFRP strip spacing that is calculated by using equation proposed in ACI 440 Committee Report is compared with the finite element model results. Finite element model results are obtained such an accuracy that can be used to give an idea to the designers.
