Analysis of factors affecting farmers' utilization of silage corn production support: Example of Denizli province

The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of silage corn production support in the province of Denizli. The main data used in the study comes from a poll taken by a sample of 128 silage corn farmers. The data obtained has been examined and analyzed after being classified into two as farmers who utilization production support and farmers who do not utilization support. The study points out that 67.2% of the farmers have utilization silage corn production support while 32.8% did not utilization this support. Average age of the farmers is 47.6, their average farming experience is 30.7 years, their average cattle farming experience is 19.7 years, their average silage corn production experience is 9.7 years and their average farming land is 77.8 da. According to results of the chi-square analysis that was made to identify the factors affecting the farmers' utilization of the production support, a significant relationship has been found between some socio economic variables and the farmers' utilization of silage production support. Based on the findings of the logistics regression analysis, a statistically significant relationship has been found between whether the farmers utilization the support or not and variables like age, family size, years in silage corn production experience of farmers, farmers' keeping of operational records, farmers' agricultural union membership status, social security status, regular newspaper literacy, cattle ownership, change in land size of silage corn production and the status of benefiting from forage crop tool and equipment support. It is important to increase the amount of silage corn production for a highly competitive and sustainable livestock production in the research area. Necessary technical, bureaucratic and political measures should be taken so that farmers can benefit more from silage corn production support.
