The relationship between sexual satisfaction, body image and self-esteem

Objective: The aim of thisstudy was to investigate the differences in terms of sexual satisfaction, body image and self-esteem in participants with various sociodemographic characteristics and sexual life variables. Methods: Thestudy was conducted with a total of 404 adult heterosexual individuals, including 266 females and 138 males who volunteered in the Surveey survey system online. All participants were given a Sociodemographic Characteristics and Data Form, the Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale (GRISS), the Body-Cathexis Scale (BCS) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Results: In our study, a significant positive correlation between participants' sexual satisfaction and body image, and a significant negative correlation between sexual satisfaction and self-esteem were observed. There was also a significant negative correlation between body image and self esteem. The RBSE scores differed in participants with various features of marital status, work life, income level and sex life patterns. In addition, it was observed thatthe GRISS scores differed between participants with different sex patterns and educational levels. There was a significant positive correlation between GRISS and RSSS in females and GRISS and age in males. Conclusion: This study was designed to assess the relationship between sexual satisfaction, body image, and self-esteem in individuals in a non-clinicalsample. It was observed that sexual satisfaction, body image and self-esteem have significant relationships in both male and female participants. Based on our findings, previous research are discussed and suggestions for future work are presented.
