Abstract (EN)
Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate the impact of gender-affirming surgeries (GAS) on the sexual quality of life and sexual satisfaction of individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Materials and Methods: This prospective study was conducted between September 2023 and January 2025 at the Urology outpatient clinic of IUC, Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Hospital, among individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria and evaluated during their gender transition process. Sociodemographic data of the patients, Sexual Quality of Life Scale for Women/Men (SQOL-F/M), and New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS) scores were analyzed. Results: When comparing individuals who underwent GAS and those who did not, there was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of age and duration of hormone therapy (p<0.05). Among trans women, those who had undergone GAS had significantly higher levels of both sexual quality of life and sexual satisfaction compared to those who had not (SQOL, 79.00 vs. 60.50; p <0.05) (NSSS, 88.00 vs. 71.00; p <0.05). In trans men, The SQOL scores were significantly higher in the GAS group (median = 70.00 vs. 42.50; p <0.05). However, NSSS scores did not reach statistical significance (median = 80.00 vs. 72.50; p >0.05). Conclusion: Hormonal and surgical interventions appear to have overall positive effects on the sexual quality of life and sexual satisfaction levels of transgender individuals. For evaluation, it is crucial to use measurement tools validated specifically for transgender populations and to adopt a personalized and holistic healthcare approach to improve both clinical outcomes and quality of life.
