Abstract (EN)
Objective: The study was formulated as a randomized controlled experimental study to verify the effect of the modified supine position on urinary elimination in patients following PCI. Method: The study population consisted of patients who underwent PCI and were hospitalized in the angiography unit of a city hospital associated with the Ministry of Health in Istanbul. Meanwhile, the sample included 64 patients who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. For the control group, the standard clinical procedure following PCI (0-degree flat supine position) was applied. But, for the experimental group, a nursing intervention involving a modified supine position for 6 hours post-PCI was implemented. The research data were collected using the Patient Information Form, the Standardized Mini-Mental Test (SMMT), the Post-PKG Patient Follow-Up Information Form, the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the Visual Analog Scale-Anxiety (VAS-A), a bladder diary, a portable ultrasound device, and a urine measurement container. Findings: According to the experimental and control groups; the patients' individual characteristics, characteristics related to medical diagnoses and SMMT scores did not show any significant difference. According to the experimental and control groups, it was determined that the duration of water drinking until the first urination after PCI, the amount of water drunk until the first urination and the first urgency times of the patients were similar and there was no significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). It was determined that the mean duration of the first urination and the urine remaining in the bladder after the first urination determined by ultrasonography (USG) were significantly shorter in the experimental group (p<0.05) in favor of the experimental group. It was observed that the difference in the amount of fluid exited between the experimental and control groups at the 1st and 5th hours was in favor of the experimental group (approximately 60-70 ml difference) (p<0.05). Conclusion: In accordance with the results obtained from the study, it is suggested that the modified supine lying position after PCI has a positive effect on urinary function up to 6 hours. However, it is advised that further studies with larger sample sizes and follow-up assessments be conducted to examine the long-term effects.
