The transcription and evaluation of the Population Book of Macahel Sanjak in the Province of Çıldır numbered 2769

The Population Registers, which shed light on the Ottoman Empire's XIXth century and were one of the most important sources of historical city research, are very important in terms of the information they contain. These notebooks, which recorded the population of men across the country, were kept for purposes of both sufficiency statements for military service and to identify the statements of paying taxes. The census, which started in Istanbul and its nearby in 1831, could not be completed at the same time everywhere. The censuses in Çıldır Province, which is the subject of our study and includes the Macahel Sanjak, could hardly be completed in 1835. The factors like the distance of the region to the center, mountainous land, dispersed settlements, and the lack of qualified staff who would take a census can count among the reasons why the censuses were completed later than Istanbul. In this study, which is based on the Çıldır Province, Macahel Sanjak's Population Book numbered 2769 in the Ottoman Archives under the Presidency of State Archives, referring to the information that we obtained from the population book, the number of villages, the names of the people living in each village, their physical features, their vocational information, and the titles they used were evaluated. In the introduction part of our study, which consists of the first part, the second part, and the conclusion part, were dwelled on the method and framework of our study, In the first part, there are various evaluations related to the population records in the book. In the second part, the transcription of the related notebook was made. In the conclusion part, in light of the data obtained from the notebook, a general evaluation was made.
