Evaluation of the efficiency of TWO methods in pediatric basic life support education

Aim: The research was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of two methods in pediatric basic life support education given to 3rd year nursing students. Materials and Methods: This research is a descriptive and semi-experimental research. As data collection tool, socio-demographic information form created by the researcher in line with the literature information and the questionnaire, formed by scanning the literature information and taking expert opinion, were used. Results: The mean age of the students was 20.86±0.98, 75% of them were women, 85.7% of them thought they did not have enough knowledge about basic life support, 51.2% of them had not heard of a device called automatic external defibrillator before and 92.9% of them did not have knowledge about how to use this device, and 100% of them did not follow the current guidelines published for basic life support. It was determined that there was a significant difference between the Pediatric Basic Life Support total and sub-dimensions median scores of the students in the face-to-face and distance education groups (p<0.05), and the post-test median scores of the students were higher than the pre-test median scores. It was found that there was a significant difference between the total and sub-dimensions post-test median scores of the students in the face-to-face and distance education groups between the groups (p<0.05). It was observed that the amount of increase in Pediatric Basic Life Support score was higher in the face to-face education group compared to the distance education group. Conclusion: It was determined that both methods used in the pediatric basic life support education given to the students increased the students' knowledge about pediatric basic life support and that face-to-face education for pediatric basic life support was more effective than distance education.
