Abstract (EN)

Objective: This study was aim to determine children's addiction to digital games and family relationships and parents' practices to prevent this addiction Materials and Methods: This analytical-cross-sectional study was conducted with a total of 315 5th and 6th-grade students studying at Teacher Nebahat Alpan Secondary School, Behiye Hanım Secondary School, Private Söke Kültür Secondary School, Private Söke Exam College Secondary Schools in Aydın province Söke district and their parents. It was held from September 2021 to October 2021. Data were collected from Parent Descriptive Information Form, Child Descriptive Information Form, Children's Digital Game Addiction Scale, Children's Family Relationship Scale, and Parents' Practices for Preventing Digital Game Addiction in Children. Descriptive statistics, student t-test, one-way analysis of variance and post hoc tests were used in the analysis of the data. Cohen(d) and Eta squared(η2) coefficients were used to calculate the effect size of the variables. Results: The digital game addiction status of the children participating in the study was found to be 66.8% less risky. It was determined that students' male gender and low school success increased digital game addiction.It has been concluded that supportive family relationships and parents' practices to prevent digital game addiction also reduce the level of digital game addiction. Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that the level of digital game addiction in children is low risk, and it has been concluded that supportive family relationships and parents practices to prevent digital game addiction are effective approaches to reducing digital game addiction in children.
