Abstract (EN)

In this study, the mediating role of early maladaptive schemas in the relationship between childhood traumas and cognitive emotion regulation was examined. 406 people participated in the study. "Sociodemographic Information Form", "Young Schema Questionnaire Short Form", "Cognitive Emotion Regulation Scale" and "Childhood Mental Trauma Scale" were applied to the participants. The responses of the participants were entered into the SPSS 25.0 package program and data analysis was performed. Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were applied to examine the differences in early maladaptive schemas, cognitive emotion regulation and childhood trauma scores in terms of sociodemographic variables. Pearson correlation was applied to examine the relationship between early maladaptive schemas, cognitive emotion regulation and childhood traumas. In order to examine the mediating role of early maladaptive schemas in the relationship between childhood traumas and cognitive emotion regulation, the fourth model was applied with PROCESS plug-in in SPSS. According to the findings of the study, significant differences were found in childhood traumas, early maladaptive schemas and cognitive emotion regulation scores in terms of sociodemographic variables. In line with the correlation findings, a positive and significant relationship was found in childhood trauma scores with maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation and early maladaptive schemas. In addition, maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation was positively and significantly predicted by childhood traumas, disconnection and rejection, and hyper-vigilance schema domains. The model explained 39% of the variance. In addition, according to the findings regarding the mediating role of early maladaptive schema domains in the relationship between childhood traumas and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation, it was found that all schema domains had a significant partial mediating role. Key Words: Cognitive Emotion Regulation, Emotion Regulation, Childhood Traumas, Early Maladaptive Schemas, Schema, Trauma.
