Abstract (EN)

İstanbul is a city with its internal dynamics, districts, avenues, cultural diversity, and different identity structures, and has a universal reputation. Beyoğlu, on the other hand, has been as important a place as Istanbul within the city walls throughout history. Beyoğlu is a place that constantly changes the historical process and creates new life patterns in its existing texture. The changes that emerged in Beyoğlu after 1990 are an extension of globalization and are related to the new identity given to Beyoğlu, and this is the reason for the discussions. The changes made are far from a holistic point of view, they are an add-on rather than a historical extension of Beyoğlu. The identity of Beyoğlu, which was defined in the past, and the social and cultural texture emerging today are not compatible with each other. The changes that are intended to be articulated to Beyoğlu's identity create more complex situations and cause such as a waste of labor, money, and time. Based on these problems, it is possible to reveal the new identity features through Taksim Square by considering the changes in Istanbul Beyoğlu after the 1990 about Beyoğlu's identity problem. Taksim Square and its surroundings indicate an identity without attachments, patches, or integrity. Photographs are included in the thesis to strengthen the narrative of the change in question. Key Words: Beyoğlu, City, Globalization, Urban Identity, Taksim Square, Tarlabaşı
