Abstract (EN)

Due to recent global climate change, our country is experiencing short and sudden heavy rainfalls. These unusually negative weather changes lead flooding in our cities which result in the loss of many lives and properties. To minimize the levels of damage and losses caused by these floods, it is necessary to evaluate and foresee early detection sings of the recuring flooding. Certain implementations such as geographical information systems (GIS) have been able to analyze flood risk and achieve close to real life results. By achieving these results they have been able to minimize the potential damage that may caused by these floods. In this study, the GIS have done testing in the Zeytinli Çay located in Edremit, Balıkesir. Their testing was done by implementing different return periods (5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500 years) of calculating the flow of floodplain analysis. The region's digital elevation model, stream network, flow paths and cross sections were produced with help of 1/25000 scale maps Global Mapper and AutoCAD Civil 3D. The hydraulic model of the stream network was created by a river analysis program (HEC-RAS) Hydrological Engineering Center River Analysis System, produced by the (USACE) United States Army Corp of Engineers. To improve and adequate results, natural river banks were used in the analysis where, various flooding scenarios were implemented. The results were obtained and assessed acording to the these examination.
