Abstract (EN)

Due to increasing energy demands and environmental concerns, improving fuel efficiency and maximizing fuel value is crucial. This study aims to evaluate the current energy use and biomass energy potential of Istanbul Beylikdüzü district. In 2022, there are 182,420 natural gas subscriptions in the district and natural gas is provided to approximately 409,347 people. Various data sources and methods have been used for natural gas consumption and biomass energy calculations. The research found that if existing green areas are utilized with energy plants, only 1.26% of natural gas can be replaced. When all arable land is used, this rate increases to 9.26%. With the current consumption regime, a biomass production area of 1939 m² is required per subscription. As a result of the study, it was determined that the maximum number of subscriptions that could provide heating and hot water with sustainable biomass energy in Beylikdüzü was 11,488. However, the current number of subscriptions, 182,420, exceeds this limit. Such assessments require more detailed planning, taking into account land use and specific allocations. A suitable model has also been put forward to ensure sustainability in terms of green energy in city planning.
