Çolak İbrahim Bey

Halil İbrahim Çolak was born in Bursa or Bozüyük in 1881. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1901 and started his military service as a lieutenant in the same year. He was appointed to the rank of captain in 1907. During the preparations for the II. Constitutional Monarchy, he was in charge of the Monastery. Along with being a member of the Committee of Union and Progress, he was also a member of the Fedâi-i Zâbitan group of the society. During his stay in the Monastery, he made an important contribution to the process leading to the proclamation of the Constitutional Monarchy with the assassination of Police Inspector Hüseyin Sami Bey. He was promoted to the rank of major thanks to his achievements during World War I (1914-1918). However, he retired from the military profession in 1917 as a result of his own will. İbrahim Bey, who could not stay in Istanbul during the armistice years, went to Anatolia and joined the National Struggle. In 1920, he tried to suppress the rebellions against the National Struggle with II. Kuva-yı Seyyare. With the advance of the Greeks, Kuva-yı Seyyare that belonging to İbrahim Bey, turn into the Cavalry Division and than included in the regular army. İbrahim Bey with his III. Cavalry Division, showed great usefulness by taking part in the battles of II. İnönü, Kütahya-Eskişehir, Sakarya and the Great Offensive. After the victory of the National Struggle, Çolak İbrahim Bey continued his service in the Parliament for four terms as Bilecik deputy. In this process, he established Bozüyük Lumber Factory. İbrahim Bey, who was occupied in trade until the end of his life, was dead in 1944. In this study, the biography of Çolak İbrahim Bey was revealed in the light of the events of the period. In addition, the whole life of İbrahim Bey has been examined within the sources reached, and his place in our recent history has been revealed.
