Construction safety in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT: The health and safety aspect of workers during construction is an important factor as it influences the project directly since the injuries and accidents costs will be high to the project. For this reason, it is important to improve the health and safety conditions in the construction process to avoid the fatal accidents and injuries and to decrease the cost to the project. This study examined the factors which influence the health and safety during construction in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and how to improve its level. A questionnaire survey was administered which consisted of many items related to the main factors in order to evaluate the safety level. The research examined three factors, and evaluated the safety level depending on these three factors which include: management, safety office and the workers. In addition, the research studied the relationship between the size and age of the construction company and the safety level. Hence, it found that the safety in KSA needs improvement in general and there is a relationship between the size and age of the construction company and the safety level, as the level of safety of the old and large companies is higher than the small and new ones.
