Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT The knowledge about pain and Nursing Interventions Related to Care of Patient With Pain of Nurses Working in Balcah Hospital of Medical Faculty at University of Çukurova Pain, which is as old as human history, is a fact that an individual comes face to face with different kinds and degrees of it in a period of his/her life. Pain means continuous and sere ache in any part of the body. Although it is most common reason that needs health care, it is not understood very well, and for this reason it continues to be one of the most important medical problem. Pain experience is dynamic and understanding this is the responsibility of the nurse. Nurse makes cooperation with the patient and the other members of the health care team to control pain. Nurses are ethically responsible for pain management and pain relief. This study has been done in order to investigate the knowledge of nurses about the patients with pain and related nursing interventions. One hundred and ninety eight nurses working daytime at Balcah Hospital of Çukurova university Faculty of Medicine are included to the scope of research. The data was collected by the use of a questionnaire which included questions about pain in general and related nursing practices. It is discovered that average of nurses' ages was 30.89, average of their professional experience was 12.0 years, of all the nurses 52.0% did not have chronic pain experience, 42.4% stated that they frequently encounter patients in pain, 70.2% had pain education at school, 88.4% did not have pain education except school and did not follow a publication related to pain, 88.9% used pharmacological methods, 85.4% made evaluation based verbal expressions at all the nurses, 96.5% knew important points in narcotic analgesic administration knowledge about pain. At the end of this study it has been seen that nurses had little knowledge about pain control methods. After the evaluation of the conclusions, they will be used in education to increase the nursing care and the quality of the nursing care. Key Words: Care, Interventions, Nursing, Pain. Xll
