Progressivism and its opposition-reaction in Republic Period play as a dramatic conflict in fiction and reflection of the model plays

A person who directs dynamic changes towards the evolution of society is described as progressive; the individual who can not orient dynamic changes towards what is supposed to be is described as reactionary person. Reactionaries stand up for the traditional way of life, emerges and conflicts with progression. Progression, in essence, refers to modern life, intellect, science and rational thought. The idea of progressivism started with the concept of westernisation in Ottoman period in the Republic of Turkey and was completed in all institutions of society with Ataturk?s revolution. Fundamental changes in many areas have been experienced from the alphabet revolution to women?s rights, from the closure of religious courts to the pending adoption of secularism. Reactionary sectors who resist this change on behalf of defending both their interests and power have made efforts to protect their own static structure. Therefore many riots and events have been experienced during history of the republic.Theatre serves as a mirror to society, by its very nature is an art in favour of progress and transformation. In the Republican period when requesting every sighted change in the social sphere transfer to the public by using educational function of the theatre, criticized for the wrong practices of the past on the stage. Writers while working for growth on the idea of progressivism in the social sphere that they deal with themes of nationalism, modern life style, the exploitation of religious beliefs axis, direct their criticism arrows towards the idea of reaction.This contrary pair is the leading conflict motives among the one which has been ageless and been used since the first period of dramatic literature. In order to appropriate the principles of progressivism and revolutionism of the phenomenon of the Republic on the commune, the idea of benefiting from theatre begins with the representations of Halk Evleri. ?Praising the New? had been used as a conflict material especially during the first period of the Republic. Modernism-obscurantism have always been used in order to improve communal living in every period. Dramatic literature will carry on using this contrariness.
