Abstract (EN)
This study is based on examining specific works adapted from novels to theatre in Turkish literature. The aim is to contribute to the theoretical framework by comparing the source text with its adaptation. The main purpose of this study is to identify works adapted from novels to theatre during the Republican Era, highlighting the differences between the two literary genres and revealing how faithful authors remained to the original novel and to what extent they made changes during the adaptation process. The study consists of three sections, excluding the "Introduction," "Conclusion," and "References." In the "Introduction" section, the development of literary genres such as novels and theatre in Turkish literature through translation activities since the Tanzimat Period is discussed. The use of inter-genre adaptation methods, important works and authors in this field, and the various challenges faced by authors during the adaptation process are also explored as preparation for the main topic. The first part of the study's "First Section" attempts to establish the theoretical framework by revealing the development of the adaptation concept in Turkish literature and its position within translation activities. Simultaneously, challenges faced by authors in adaptations from novels to theatre due to genre differences are emphasized. The second part of this section provides an overview of adaptation studies conducted from the Tanzimat Period to the Republican Era, showcasing the place of this genre in Turkish literature. In the "Second Section" of the study, focus is given to the theatrical aspects of Reşat Nuri Güntekin and Aziz Nesin, who have significantly influenced theatre with their novels and achieved numerous successes through their works. The "Third Section" compares selected works adapted from novels to theatre, aiming for an in-depth analysis. The "Conclusion" section summarizes general findings and observations throughout the study. The "References" section lists the novels and theatrical works consulted during the research process, along with other relevant sources.
