Deficiency of vitamin d in patients with primary hypothyroidism and as a related risk factor for cardiovascular diseases

Hypothyroidism is one of the most common diseases of the thyroid gland. Occurring in 5% to 15% of women over the age of 65, symptoms of hypothyroidism fluctuate depending on the extent and rate of onset of hypothyroidism. Worldwide too little iodine in the diet is the most common cause of hypothyroidism. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in countries with adequate dietary iodine. A total of 100 patients, 50 females and 50 male, were selected among the interviewed patients. Considering the criteria specified within the scope of this thesis study. The mean age of the patients was calculated as 47.82 ± 12.92. The mean age of male patients was calculated as 46.44 ± 15.01. The mean age of female patients was calculated as 49.20 ± 10.39 years. The patient group is approximately 10 years older than the experimental group. The patient group is faced with weight problem which is a side effect of hypothyroidism which poses a risk for cardiovascular diseases. The lipid profile markers of the patient group confirm the risk of cardiovascular disease. Vitamin D level of the patient group is below the reference value range. Calcium values of the patient group are below the reference value range. This confirms the lack of vitamin D. Hypothyroidism affects the quality of life as well as the health of patients with effects such as weight and fatigue. This situation reveals the risk of cardiovascular disease in patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether serum vitamin D and serum calcium levels are correlated with some cardiovascular risk factors such as lipid profile and body mass index in a patient with primary hypothyroidism compared to healthy subjects as a control group.
