Abstract (EN)

This study experimentally and numerically investigates the mechanic behaviors of composite shafts exposed to different loadings. The bending and torsional stresses of hollow circular shafts made of the composite materials are examined at different orientation angles. As fiber materials for the hollow circular composite shafts are used glass, carbon and kevlar fiber; and epoxy resin was used as the matrix material. Hollow circular composite shafts 80mm, 200mm, 250mm in length and having outer diameter Douter=17mm, different inner diameters Dinner= 12mm-13mm were utilized in the study. Hollow composite shafts were produced at orientation angles θ=45°, 60°, 75°, 80°, 88° using the filament winding method. Mechanical bending and torsion tests for hollow circular composite shafts were repeated separately for each specimen. numerical study was carried out by selecting three-dimensional finite element type (Solid 186) in ANSYS software. As a result of numerical and experimental analyses, it was observed that the mechanical behaviors of hollow circular composite shafts vary depending on the fiber reinforcement material, orientation angle, wall thickness and length. The obtained results of experimental and numerical analyses were presented in graphs and the necessary considerations were made. The experimental and numerical analysis results were found to be close to each other. Keywords: Composite shafts, Filament winding, Orientation angle, Torsion test, Bending test
