Abstract (EN)

Cinema has been in a close relationship with history since its emergence. With this relationship, cinema, which interacts with the audience, has begun to gain intense cultural elements. These achievements, which are beyond commercial concerns, allow us to make sociological observations through cinema. When the films that the society watches and are interested in are examined today, it causes us to see new findings in the way of perception of many different historical, political and cultural events that were not taken into account at the time they were broadcast. In this sense, it is important for our study to examine the cinema of the 1950s and the cultural life of the period in an interdisciplinary way. The years 1950-1960 were the period when a new understanding of art was adopted in cultural policies. With the Democrat Party's coming to power in 1950, Westernization, which was seen as a modernization tool in previous years, and the policies created with this idea, and the univocality in the field of art gained a liberal environment when the multi-party system was adopted. Turkish cinema entered a new era in the 1950s, greatly influenced by the development of relations with the USA and the increasing hostility to communism. When filmmaking became a profitable sector with the financial improvements provided in Turkish cinema in the 1950s, the number of films began to increase in a way that was not seen in previous years. Foreign productions entering Turkey have also diversified this environment. In this context, films that were considered important for our study by penetrating the cultural life of the period were analyzed and interpreted.
