The therapeutic effect of irisin on experimental nephropathy

Renal failure is described by the loss of basic functions of the kidney. İt is an important health issue in our country as the whole world. Irisin which is a newly discovered peptide and determined it has serious effects on human metabolism. The influence of the irisin on the adriamycin induced nephropathy examined in our study. In this purpose, 28 male Wistar Albino rats were divided into 4 groups: 1. Group: Standart diet given. Any injection was made during the study. 2. Group: Irisin has been given intraperitoneally on once every three days and 80,65 pmol/kg dosage. It is administrated on 5 times totally and sacrified at day 14. 3. Group: Adriamycin has been administrated once, intraperitoneally, 10 mg/kg dosage. Sacrified at day 14. 4. Grup Adriamycin has been administrated once, intraperitoneally, 10 mg/kg dosage. Irisin has been given intraperitoneally on once every three days and 80,65 pmol/kg dosage. It is administrated on 5 times totally and sacrified at day 14. At the end of the study, blood samples for biochemical tests, renal tissue samples for immunohistochemical and TUNEL tests, were taken. Serum and tissue irisin levels are examined with ELISA. It is revealed with ELISA and immunohistochemically that the irisin levels of the kidney tissue of adriamycin given group was decreased. When compared with adriamycin given group, a decrement was detected on TUNEL positivity on irisin treatment group. In conclusion, our data revealed that the irisin levels decrease in renal failure and it can be thought that exogenous irisin can have a protective effect against developing renal injury.
