Abstract (EN)
Peripheral nerve injuries (PNI) are lesions common in humans that lead to severe, permanent physiological and functional losses. Starting treatment as early as possible is quite important. In this study, we examined whether Levetiracetam contributes to improvement in axon-nerve damage in rat experimental model. Materials and Methods: 48 Wistar albino adult male rats weighing 250-300 Gr were used in the study. In damaged and undamaged groups, functional gait analysis and tissue sample analysis with aid of light microscopy and hemotoxylene eosin dye were evaluated between matched groups that taking 300 and 600 mg doses of Levetiracetam. EMG analysis, Native Thiol, Total Thiol, disulfid, IMA, Albumin, TAS, TOS, Disulfid/Native thiol, Disulfid/Total thiol values were compared. Results: In rats receiving levetiracetam therapy, there was a significant improvement in functional sciatica index values, it was effective in regulating oxidative damage on nerve damage. and ischemia-modified albumin levels were found to be significantly higher in the non-treated group, which was the control group. It is noteworthy that axonal damage in the groups treated with LVT is less in the untreated group. Conclusion: There was a significant improvement in functional sciatica index values in rats receiving levetiracetam treatment, but there was no improvement in the group that did not receive treatment in the last times ; We observed that it was effective in regulating oxidative damage on nerve injury and that these findings were in line with significant differences on Native Thiol, Total Thiol, disulfid, IMA, Albumin, TAS, TOS, Disulfid / Native thiol, Disulfid / Total thiol values.
