Abstract (EN)

In addition to various complications, fibrosis is an important problem in undescended testes. Fibrosis is significantly increased after one year of age in undescended testis. Due to the increase in fibrosis, it causes basal membrane thickening and decrease in germ cell number. Fibrosis replaces the functional parenchyma in the affected testis. Mast cells play a role in the development of fibrosis and may be associated with germ cell damage. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between testicular mast cells and fibrosis in rats with experimental cryptorchidism. In our study, 10 male Sprague Dawley rats aged 15-17 days were divided into 2 equal groups as control and cryptorchid groups. The testes of the experimental animals were taken 15 days after the cryptorchidism model. In addition to light microscopic and electron microscopic examinations of the testicular tissues, mast cell number was also determined by immunohistochemistry method using anti mast cell tryptase antibody. In our study, we observed the distancing of the seminiferous tubules in the insteric region of the cryptorchidic testes, the separation of germ cells from the basement membrane, perivascular fibrosis, edema, congestion, hemorrhage, increased interstitial area and fibrosis in the peritubular area, and decreased seminiferous tubule diameters. In our study, we found a positive correlation between the number of mast cells and fibrosis.
