South China Sea dispute in the context of sea power theory

Abstract (EN)

Globalization has changed the balance of power in a way that shows itself through territorial conflicts at political, economic and military levels. In this context the effects of sea lines of communications on the aim to be great power will be examined specifically in the case of South China Sea Issue. Once a territorial conflict, South China Sea became the interest of USA therefore the world because of China's One Belt One Road Project. With this project China will create the new marine silk road and an economic belt which will make it the new great power of the system. As the current sea power of the world USA perceived this project and China as a threat to its power so it announced itself to be a Asia Pacific country and take part in the conflict through other territorial claimants who was challenging China's claims at the scene. In this dissertation, we will try to understand the place and importance of South China Sea in the global power race between USA and PRC through the lenses of Sea Power Theory.
