Describtive words of human in the Compilation Dictionary

Compilation and dialect studies are of great value, particularly as they serve as important sources for various fields such as linguistics and folklore, and contribute significantly to the enrichment of a language's vocabulary. Words that are not recorded or used eventually fade from a society's collective memory, leading to the narrowing of the language's lexical field. In this context, dictionaries and studies focusing on these dictionaries play a crucial role in preserving the rich vocabulary of the Turkish language and ensuring its accurate transmission to future generations. In this regard, The Dictionary of Dialects Compiled from Turkish Folk Speech in Turkey is a valuable work of great significance, as it gathers and preserves words that reflect the richness of the Turkish language and culture, preventing them from disappearing. The thesis titled Descriptive Words of Human in the Compilation Dictionary analyzes six volumes of the Dictionary of Dialects Compiled from Turkish Folk Speech in Turkey, examining how individuals' physical and psychological characteristics are reflected in the folk lexicon. The primary aim of the study is to identify how perceptions of individuals and societal value judgments are expressed linguistically through descriptive words found in the dictionary. The data obtained during the research were classified systematically. Descriptive terms were categorized under the main headings of physical and psychological attributes and further divided into subcategories based on gender (female, male), age group (children), and general references to humans. In this context, the study seeks to answer questions such as how individuals are perceived in Turkish society, which physical and psychological traits are emphasized, and how positive or negative characterizations vary across genders. The findings are presented in a systematic and comprehensive manner. The abundance of identified descriptive words highlights the richness of Turkish vocabulary and demonstrates the broad expressive capacity of the language. Through the analysis of these descriptions, the study exemplifies the linguistic depth of Turkish and how human attributes are reflected through vocabulary. Words describing physical and psychological traits clearly illustrate how detailed the language can be when portraying human characteristics and how uniquely these expressions are constructed. In this context, original research based on compilation dictionaries makes a valuable contribution to the future of the language by preserving and enhancing its lexical wealth and ensuring its accurate transmission to future generations.
