Abstract (EN)

In this study, heavy metals concentrations like Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cd, Co, Cr, Ni and Pb is determined in the water and sediment samples from Gediz River that also flows from Manisa city centre and especially nine stations that are detrmined in the decharge regions. According to the analysis results, in the water samples copper 0,0147 - 0,1007 ppm ; iron 0,0103 - 0,2826 ppm ; manganese 0,0075 - 0,191 ppm ; zinc 1,0327 - 1,3222 ppm ; cadmium 0,00343 - 0,00391 ppm ; cobalt 0,00625 - 0,00656 ppm ; crom 0,057 - 0,1196 ppm ; nickel 0,0224 - 0,1217 ppm ; Jead 0,2061 - 0,2221 ppm ; in the sedimet samples, copper 4,66025 - 2075,95 ppm ; iron 2851,85 - 7484 ppm ; manganese 107,96 - 956,65 ppm ; zjnc 38,133 - 930,95 ppm ; cadmium 0,08065 - 1,8967 ppm ; cobalt 0,03 - 4,5051 ppm ; crom 8,7535 - 1145,8 ppm ; nickel 15,2795 - 207,61 ppm ; Jead 0,0997 - 230,775 ppm was fixed in these amounts. The results taken from water samples was compared with maximum heavy metal concentrations that is permitted in watering waters and it was fixed that metal amounts was low, only crom was at limits amounts. According to these results, the water taken from Gediz River is proved to be usable as watering water. Again, the results taken from water samples, was compared to inorganic pollution limit amounts announced by Water Pollution Control Regulation and it was proved that river water was polluted in the respect of crom and lead and it was fixed that pollution was at the threatening levels. Heavy metal concentrations in the sediment samples was found higher than the water samples.
