Abstract (EN)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder and its etiopathogenesis consists of multifactorial factors. There is still no clear biomarker in this disorder, and its etiopathogenesis has not yet been fully elucidated despite many studies. In this study, it was aimed to compare the serum levels of galectin-1 and galectin-3, which are associated with inflammatory mechanisms, with healthy controls in children with ADHD and to evaluate the relationship between symptom severity and serum level. 37 children diagnosed with ADHD and 36 healthy children between the ages of 7-12 were included in our study. The Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia For School Aged Children- Present and Lifetime Version (KSADS-PL) was administered by the clinician and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised Form (WISC-R) was administered by the psychologist. Parents filled out the Sociodemographic Data Form and the Turgay DSM-IV-Based Screening and Rating Scale for Disruptive Behavior Disorders (T-DSM-IV-S). Venous blood samples were taken, and serum galectin-1 and galectin-3 levels were measured. No statistically significant difference was detected between the groups in terms of serum galectin-1 and galectin-3 levels. In the attention deficit dominant type and combined type groups, a negative correlation was found between the T-DSM-IV-S oppositionality score and galectin-3. It is thought that further studies with larger samples that address the limitations of our study are needed to understand the place of inflammatory parameters such as galectin-1 and galectin-3, which are related to the immune system, in the etiopathogenesis of ADHD and to be shown as a diagnostic biomarker.
