Abstract (EN)
This research consists of two studies. In Study 1, it was aimed to adapt the Dialectical Self Scale into Turkish and test its validity and reliability. The aim of Study 2 is to examine the relationship between dialectical self and change expectancy for Turkish participants. The research was conducted with 504 individuals residing in Mersin, which is considered to be representative of Turkey due to its demographic data and migration from every region in Turkey. The data of the study were collected with 'Demographic Information Form', 'Dialectical Self Scale (DSS)', 'Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES)' and the assessment tools used for change expectancy. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis conducted to examine the construct validity of the Dialectical Self Scale, a unidimensional scale consisting of 11 items was obtained (Fit indices: RMSEA=.030, NFI=.945, CFI=.982, IFI=.982 and GFI=.981). In order to examine the criterion-dependent validity of the scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale was used and a significant negative relationship was found between self-esteem and dialectical self in accordance with the literature (r=-,320; p=,000). The reliability of the scale was analysed with Cronbach's Alpha (α) and McDonald's Omega (ω) coefficients and found to be at a sufficient level (ω: .82; α: .78). Within the scope of Study 2, whether the dialectical self-score showed a significant difference according to the preference of the graph type showing the lifelong happiness tendency and the relationship between the change expectancy rate and the dialectical self-score were examined. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that the dialectical self-score did not show a significant difference between the preferred graph types (linear, non-linear, parabolic and non-linear) and there was no significant relationship between the dialectical self-score and change expectancy rates. The findings were compared with the findings of study in which the same assessment tools were used. Analyses on various variables were also included in the research.
