Investigation of good agricultural practice possibilities in the agriculture-based specialized fattening organized industrial zone in Diyarbakır province

In this study, research was carried out in 34 of 73 enterprises in Diyarbakır Province Agriculture Based Specialized Fattening Organized Industrial Zone according to the questions of primary importance in the "Livestock Checkpoints and Compliance Criteria" attached to the Circular on Good Agricultural Practices Criteria in Animal Production. In the study, it was determined that the enterprises do not fully comply with the criteria required for Good Agricultural Practices Certification, but six enterprises have the potential to obtain certification with minor corrections. These six enterprises were asked questions regarding the "Cattle Fattening Checkpoints Compliance Criteria". In order to ensure traceability, protection and sustainability of natural resources and the provision of safe products to consumers, it has been determined to what extent they apply methods for pest and bird control, monitoring of animal movements, animal welfare health and nutrition in shelters and compounds, which are critical control points in the application for ITU certificate. It has been determined that the enterprises do not attach importance to animal health and welfare, suitable and hygienic working areas for employees, and keeping records of the identity and movement of animals. It was determined that almost half of the enterprises do not employ contracted or permanent veterinarians. It was observed that there were irregularities and deficiencies in the infrastructure, layout and interrelationships of the buildings. In order to ensure the spread, adoption and certification of ITU, trainings on "farm management, animal welfare and health, and environmental management" should be provided to producer enterprises by the ministry, professional organizations, breeder unions and cooperatives. In addition, universities and non-governmental organizations should organize training meetings to raise awareness.
