VI11 SUMMARY Master POTANTIAL AND QUALITY IDENTIFICATION OF DİYARBAKIR GROUNDWATER Şeyhmus TÜMÜR Graudate School of Natural and Aplied Sciences Deparment of Civil Engineering 2002, Page: 104 This study pointed out Diyarbakır groundwater contamination level, inter-reserviours dispersion and changing of physical and chemical features with respect to climate Morever, it also aimed to determine the quality of groundwater and drinkwater potential by it's relation with contaminant sources. The field studies were conducted at four different water reservours and performed through out 8 months.The collected samples were analysed as in-situ, area and laboratory.Based on the results of the analyses, evaluation made on groundwater usage for drink, agricultural and industrial purpose besides the reasons for groundwater contamination were revealed. Groundwater contamination level was the highest at the dense settlement and industrial areas such as centrum and Gözeli.The contamination level was low at reserviours far away from these places. Contamination level was observed as affected by certain factors and characteristics.These are well depth, filtration levels, the protective overburen thickhess, contamination sources around awell and hydro ulic conductivity of the aquifer. The classification of the groundwater by water quality criteria is very good-good, little salty and can be used for every type of crops irigation without generating sodium risk.In addition, it is with in the class which does not froth by industrial usage. Some parameters results exceed the maximum albuable values standarts for TSE, WHO and AT.The most important contaminants for Diyarbakır groundwater are mtrogen(NH3-N,N02-N,N03-N), oil, detergent, Copper, T.Coli, F.Strep. Diyarbakır groundwater was subjected to contaminate by waste water, industrial waste and agricultural works.
