Abstract (EN)

This study offers a detailed examination of Diyarbakır's rich history, physical structure, walls and the demolition and repair processes of these walls. Diyarbakir walls are divided into two main parts, known as the inner castle and the outer castle, and the evolution of these walls throughout history and their contributions to the city are discussed. In addition, the origin of the name Diyarbakır and its importance in the Islamic period are discussed and presented to the reader in this context. Through the eyes of travelers, Diyarbakır has been examined with a perspective that reflects the city's important moments in history and its cultural riches, and especially the place of the wall image in the field of art has been analyzed and interpreted in detail. In the period from the Middle Ages to the present, the image of the city wall has been the subject of artistic works and the effects of these works on today's art are emphasized. Sur paintings and miniatures made during the Seljuk, Ottoman and Iranian periods were also examined and expressed in this context. In addition, the application of a work made to reflect these historical and cultural riches within itself and the analysis of the artist are emphasized. The works created using oil and acrylic painting techniques on canvas reflect the walls of Diyarbakır and its surroundings in detail, using different perspectives and techniques. Each work successfully conveys the history, culture and daily life of the city with its architectural details, use of light and shadow and color palette. This study makes an important contribution to understanding and sharing the rich heritage of Diyarbakır by using the power of art.
