Abstract (EN)

The wastewater generated by the textile industry is the leading cause of water pollution in the industrial sector in terms of volume and pollutants. The use of dyes to color textile products has been increasing steadily in the past century and continues to rise. Dyes, due to their organic and inorganic structures, contribute to water pollution. In this study, the degradation and color removal (1 ppm) of Remazol Brilliant Violet 5R dye, commonly used as a textile dye in industry and with a high likelihood of being present in wastewater, were investigated using an environmentally friendly laser photodegradation system. A laser beam at 445nm and 3W power, along with different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and potassium persulfate (K2S2O8) as oxidants, were employed at different temperatures and a reaction time of 6 hours. The experimental results showed that when H2O2 was used as the oxidant, the degradation rates within 6 hours were as follows: with 2 µL H2O2, 43.30% at 50°C and 72.83% at 75°C; with 4 µL H2O2, 62.39% at 50°C and 61.39% at 75°C; with 6 µL H2O2, 87.14% at 50°C and 76.96% at 75°C; with 8 µL H2O2, 88.22% at 50°C and 82.92% at 75°C. According to Total Organic Carbon analysis (TOC), a degradation value of 96% was achieved at 50°C when 2.59 x 10-4 M K2S2O8 was used for 1 ppm dye. Comparing the photodegradation system used in this study with biological treatment systems, the advantage of this system is evident as the degradation of the dye occurs in a relatively short time of 6 hours. Therefore, further studies could be conducted to facilitate the use of this system in wastewater treatment facilities of textile factories.
