Investigating the effect of biodiesel usage on the engine wear in diesel engines

As a result of increasing requirement on energy due to the global technological developments, sectors which are highly dependent to energy have focused their R&D actions on the improvement of alternative energy sources. Automotive sector is playing an important role within the searches for alternative energy sources. Also, the pressure and negative effects of fossil-based fuels on the economy is something important which needs to be considered. Especially, the global warming which became highly dangerous, has forced the daily used energy to be renewable and continuous.Internal combustion engines, have shown a very rapid development after their invention and became widely used in industry. Since petroleum is not renewable and it became obviously clear that it is going to exhaust in near future, the researches to find alternative fuels and machines to replace those which use petroleum have started. In diesel engines, while natural gas is used together with a pilot fuel as the gas fuel, the vegetable fuels and the ethyl & methyl esters derived from them are used lonely or together with petroleum based diesel fuels in various percentages.The aim of this study, is to give extensive information about biodiesel and determine the usability in diesel engines; to interpret the effect of biodiesel on engine wear with the experimental study observing the indications of changes on the lubricating oil and exhaust gas emissions .
