Internet supported education activity with hearing-impaireds education with natural auditory/ oral approach and application in Anadolu University

11 ABSTRACT Master of Science Thesis INTERNET SUPPORTED EDUCATION ACTIVITY WITH HEARING - IMPAHIEDS EDUCATION WITH NATURAL AUDITORY / ORAL APPROACH AND AN APPLICATION IN ANADOLU UNIVERSITY ZEHRA NUR KAYA Anadolu University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Computer Engineering Program - Bilişim Supervisor: Prof. Yaşar HOŞCAN 2002, 78 pages In this research, the activities of Internet Supported Education over hearing-impaireds education with Natural Auditory/Oral Approach were examined and permanency of this education over hearing- impaireds was researhed. For this reason, the lesson "SNT 155 History of Art" located in license and college programmes of Anadolu Univesity was applied as an Internet Supported Education Activity. In the thesis, the definition of hearing-impaireds is given and variety of hearing-impaireds are dwelled on. The education methods of hearing-impaireds are given and Natural Auditory/Oral Approach, which is the subject of this thesis is explained. Then, the studies of Computer Supported Education are mentioned and "Internet Supported Education" is explained. In the last section, the application is undertaken. The subjects of the application were selected at random among the students who are hearing- impaireds from birth and have hearing-aid before 4 years old and studying at Anadolu University College for the Handicapped in 2001-2002 education year. Totaly 23 students are participated in this application. For the application, at first, the subject of "Egypt Art" and "Egypt Architecture" which is one of the sub-subject of the first unit of the lesson of Art History, with the help of WebCT software, is formed as an internet supported education activity by the researcher. In this application, lasttest control group model was used. After 15 days from lasttest, to measure permanency of the education the last test was applied. The main results of this research are: The education done with "Natural Auditory/Oral Approach" is seen more successful than "Internet Supported Education" over hearing-impaired. The activity of "Internet Supported Education" is seen more permanent than "Natural Auditory/Oral Approach" education.
