Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to reveal the effects of ants on biological control of Planococcus citri Risso (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) on citrus orchards in East Mediterranean Region of Turkey. As a result of this study, ten different ant species were determined namely, Camponotus samius spagnolinii Emery, Crematogaster auberti cfr., Cremastogaster ionia Forel, Lasius turcicus Santschi, Messor structor cfr., Nylanderia sp., Pheidole pallidula Nylander, Plagiolepis schmitzii cfr., Tapinoma erraticum cfr. ve Tapinoma sp. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). L. turcicus and P. schmitzii were the most abundant among these species. Also, we conducted on ant-excluded and ant-tended experiments in a citrus orchard to evaluate the impact of ant species in Mediterranean on populations of P. citri and Ceroplastes floridensis Comst. (Hemiptera: Coccidae). Our results showed that the exclusion of ants from the canopies didn?t change, instead of reducing P. citri abundance, but increased C. floridensis.Key Words: Citrus, Planococcus citri, Ceroplastes floridensis, Formicidae,Biological control
