Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY Masters Thesis DETERMINATION OF THE MOST APPROPRIATE SLOPE PROFILE OF FILLING DAMS Nihat KAYA Fxrat University Graduate School Natural and Applied Science Department of Civil Engineering 1996, Page: 60 In the design of filling dams in addition, factors of safety of the upstream and downstream slopes are suitable with the minimum factors of safety that are determined by standarts. Economics of filling slopes must be considered for this reason, the slope of the most appropriate profile that keeps both economics and stability is necessary to select. In this study, by using Stable program, critical factors of safety of slope profiles that have differnt features are determined. This program takes as the basis of Janbu method and at the end of analysis, place of critical slopes and factors of safety are obtained. Results that are obtained from Stable program show that slope profile that has largest factor of safety is the most economical profile. An analytical relationship which gives the most appropriate slope profile is obtained by using that slope profile. KEY WORDS: Stability of slopes, filling dam, shear surface, embankments.
