Abstract (EN)

Westernization Period is the period that brought differences in the governmental, economical, military and cultural life in Ottoman Empire. In this research the theatres of the Ottoman Palaces' in the 19* century were analysed which were formed by the concept of Western Theatre that brought by the Westernization Period's differences to entertainment life. After the first chapter which describes the aim and the concept of the research, the political, economical and cultural structure of The Ottoman Empire in the 19* century was analysed. The social, governmental and spatial design of the emperors' were touched on. In the third chapter the entertainment life of the Turks were descriped. The traditional entertainment styles Karagöz, Meddah and Ortaoyunu were analysed and through these Ottoman Western Theatre was described In the fourth chapter the avant-garde 19th century Ottoman civil theatres in Western concept which caused the existance of the palace theatres, especially the most two important ones; Naum and Gedikpaşa theatres were analysed. A conclusion from the wiev of the historical and architectural sites of the Yıldız and Dolmabahce Palace Theatres, the restitution of the general plan and facades were drawn and also the Yıldız Palace Theatre's measured drawings were made. The research ends with proposals with an addition which is about the photos of the theatre groups and players who had acted in the theatres examined in this thesis.
