Abstract (EN)

This thesis explores how the press covered the opposition movement that emerged within the Republican People's Party (CHP) in 1945, during Turkey's transition to a multi-party political system. At the center of the study is the motion submitted by CHP deputies Adnan Menderes, Refik Koraltan, Fuad Köprülü, and Celal Bayar, known as the "Motion of the Four." This motion was not merely a document of intra-party dissent but a significant turning point in Turkey's democratization process. The study aims to analyze the conditions in which the motion emerged, how it was received by the public and political circles, and the political ruptures it triggered. In this context, the emergence of the opposition, the expulsion of deputies from the party, and the foundation of the Democrat Party are examined in comparison with the discourse in the press. The study focuses on the year 1945, primarily analyzing newspapers such as Tan, Vatan, Ulus, and Tasvir. Parliamentary records, archival documents, memoirs, and academic sources were also utilized. The study adopts qualitative methods, including content and discourse analysis. Newspaper articles, columns, and commentaries are evaluated in terms of content, language, and tone, aiming to reveal the political stance of the press.
