Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study was to understand the acceptance of tattoos and to reveal potential prejudices about tattoos, and to determine the experiences of tattooed individuals regarding their tattoos, their social acceptance and exclusion, their effects on employment and education opportunities, and their perceptions about associating tattoos with crime. In this context, the study was conducted using thematic analysis, a qualitative research method. In the study, interviews were conducted with 17 participants who had tattoos, the data collected was examined thematically, and the responses were classified by determining themes. According to the findings, the majority of the participants stated that they received positive reactions from their friends and families about their tattoos. However, it is common for families to be worried at the beginning. It was observed that these concerns decreased over time and individuals who had tattoos became accustomed to them. While the social acceptance of tattoos is more common among young people, the older generation generally has a negative view. It has become evident, especially in traditional sectors, that tattoos can create disadvantages in business life and cause prejudices. However, in sectors such as the art world, which are more open-minded and give importance to aesthetic values, tattoos are generally viewed positively. The majority of the participants stated that they were not directly associated with crime because of their tattoos. However, some participants shared their experiences with prejudice.
