Determination of biological activities of some plants in duhok (Iraq) province

In this study, it was aimed to determine the biological activities of Ornithogalum kurdicum Bornm., Rhus coriaria var. zebaria Shahbaz., Allium calocephalum Wendelbo, Fritillaria imperialis L., Artemisia splendens Willd., Adiantum capillus-veneris L., Orchis mascula L., Alcea kurdica Alef., Thymus vulgaris L., Mentha longifolia L., Papaver rhoeas L. and Matricaria chamomilla L. plants collected from Duhok (Iraq) province. In this context, the extracts of MeOH and DCM were extracted. Phenolic contents and chemical compositions were determined using HPLC and GC-MS devices. Antioxidant activities were determined using the DPPH method. Antimicrobial activities were measured by modified agar dilution method. DNA protective effects were determined using pBR322 supercoiled DNA. Cytotoxic effects were determined against the A549 cell line. Total antioxidant status, total oxidant status and oxidative stress index were measured using Rel Assay kits. A total of 15 phenolic compounds were identified as a result of the studies. The highest DPPH activity and TAS value were observed in R. coriaria var. zebaria, the highest TOS and OSI values ​​in A. capillus-veneris, the highest DNA protective effect and highest antimicrobial activity in R. coriaria var. zebaria, and the highest cytotoxic effect in O. kurdicum, R. coriaria var. zebaria and A. calocephalum.
