Opinions of Durkheim and Dewey related with moral education

The values and education concerning them keep their importance today for every community, as they have achieved this importance in the past and still continues to attract the interest of scientists. The new social reorganizations appears as the natural result of socio-economic changes and developments lived by communities and operation of these with a perfectionist approach is subject to only how much these values are in harmony with the values that individuals have and adopted. Because the thoughts related with the concept of ethics show changes and differentiate due to some reasons such as religion, denomination, community, social stratum and time, have caused to appearance of different approaches by different philosophers.The methodological thoughts of Emile Durkheim and John Dewey presented by them at the area of moral and value education are analyzed through making comparisons between them. Within this scope, the secular moral and value education approach of Durkheim, which brings education with religious elements and adopts and combines them together with each other, are compared with Dewey?s approach of moral and value education, which is people oriented, liberal and attaching value on human and tries to reach and achieve some inferences. For this purpose, just the different moral and moral education approaches of two theoreticians, such as Emile Durkheim and John Dewey are not analyzed, but also their approaches are studied and analyzed in order to understand their theoretical positions deeply.In the study, life of Emile Durkheim and John Dewey, their thoughts related with moral education and the movements of thought, which have been effective on the formation of their thoughts are presented and comparison of the thoughts of these two scientists and tried to introduce the synthesis of them. The benefit aimed in this study is, analyzing the thoughts of Durkheim and so it will provide better analysis of Dewey and moral education understanding of Dewey, because of the effects of him on today?s modern modal education understanding and assist us to understand their moral education systems and their contribution to the principles of their approaches.
