Determining the effect of the group guidance program prepared to develop the skills of expressing emotions on the motivation, skills of expressing emotions and social skills of primary school students

The aim of this study was to develop a group guidance curriculum for primary school students to express their emotions and to determine the effect of this curriculum on students' motivation, ability to express emotions and social skills. The research was conducted in mixed method and multi-stage design. The data of the qualitative part were collected through document analysis and interviews, in this context, the elements of the training curriculum were prepared and the data were analysed with a descriptive analysis approach. Quantitative data were collected using an experimental design and analysed by t- test. In the study, which was carried out with students attending the fourth grade in a primary school affiliated to KahramanmaraĢ Provincial Directorate of National Education in the 2023-2024 academic year, the motivation scale in primary education at the first level, the social skills scale and the scale of expressing emotions adapted into Turkish by the researcher were applied to the students, the experimental and control groups were formed by determining 60 students who were below the average as the study group of the research. The students in the experimental group were applied the „Group guidance curriculum prepared to improve the skills of expressing emotions‟ developed by the researcher, and no action was taken in the control group. Within the scope of the needs analysis, the needs of the students were determined and a group guidance training curriculum consisting of acquisition, content, learning experiences and evaluation elements was prepared for these needs. As a result of the application, no significant increase was found in the motivation and social skills of the students, while a significant increase was found in the experimental group students' ability to express emotions.
