A study on the impact of emotional contagion on burnout: A case of healthcare professionals at Kütahya Evliya Çelebi Training and Research Hospital

In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between emotional contagion and burnout of health workers and to determine the effect of emotional contagion on burnout of health workers. However, in the study, emotional contagion, which is defined as the tendency of individuals to automatically imitate facial expressions, voices and movements, has positive emotions and negative emotions dimensions, and low motivation and performance accompanied by physical, emotional or mental weakness; The effect of emotional contagion on burnout was focused on by examining the relationship between burnout and emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and decrease in personal achievement, which are defined as negative attitudes towards oneself and others. In addition, in this study, a comprehensive literature review was conducted by making use of the studies on the variables. The application part of the study was carried out on 220 health workers working in Kütahya Evliya Çelebi Training and Research Hospital. Questionnaire technique was used as data collection method in the study. The data obtained from the research were analyzed in the SPSS 25.0 package program. Factor analysis, reliability test, normality test, t-test, anova test, regression and correlation analyzes were used to evaluate the data. As a result of the research, it was seen that the increase of positive emotions in the emotional contagion of health workers decreased the burnout, while the increase in the contagion of negative emotions increased the burnout.
