Abstract (EN)

Energy prices gradually increase in Turkey every year due to rapid population and economic growths. The primary sources of electrical power generated in power stations are fossil fuels and major part of them is imported. The half of power generated in Turkey is produced by the natural gas combined cycle power plants. This is unfortunately a typical indication of the foreign energy dependency however Turkey is comparatively rich in renewable energy potential. Recently the significant portion of this potential has commercially been utilized by renewable energy investments. Besides, the remainder of this potential can be seized on using on-grid or off-grid renewable systems ranging from power ratings of 1 to 10 kW in high populated and rural areas. Power balance between generation and consumption should be done for these systems to be economic by properly shifting the loads within the day. One way to balance generation and consumption in a specified period is possible to solve a discrete optimization problem and the solution can be achieved by a model satisfying the given constraints in a certain location. In this thesis, the modelling of a low power off-grid renewable system economically meeting power demand for a typical residential building in a location specifically for Düzce is studied. The proposed model also handles comparative performances of wind turbines (WT) alone, photovoltaic (PV) panels alone and hybrid WT-PV systems on the basis of meteorological data.
