Abstract (EN)
This study examined the mediating role of basic psychological needs and self-esteem in the relationship between adolescents' parent-adolescent relationships and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). The sample of the study consisted of 580 adolescents attending high schools in the Merkez district of Bilecik. The Fear of Missing Out Scale, Parent of Perception Scale, Basic Psychological Needs Scale-High School Form and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were used as measurement tools in the study. Descriptive statistical analyses, structural equation modeling, t-test and ANOVA were used in the analysis of the data. In the correlation analysis, positive significant relationships were found between perception of mother, perception of father, need for relatedness, need for competence, need for autonomy and self-esteem, while negative significant relationships were found between variables other than need for autonomy and FOMO. Accordingly, the need for autonomy was not included in the structural model. In the Structural Equation Model (SEM) analysis, in one preferred model, the need for relatedness and self-esteem had a serial mediation effect in the relationship between adolescents' perception of mother and father and FOMO, while in the other preferred model, the need for competence and self-esteem had a serial mediation effect in the relationship between adolescents' perception of mother and father and FOMO. In the study, it was also examined whether there was a significant difference in FOMO levels according to the gender and age of adolescents. It was determined that FOMO levels were significantly higher in female adolescents than in male adolescents. No significant difference was found in FOMO levels according to the ages of adolescents. Keywords: Fear of missing out, parent of perception, basic psychological needs, self-esteem
