Abstract (EN)

'Chronotope', defined as internal ties that can be established in different ways through various societal experiments between space and time artfully expressed in literature by Mihail Bahtin, can be applied in the analysis and interpretation of the narrative structure, themes, characters and images of a novel. This concept, which Bahtin foresees only for the novel, seems to be suitable for the cinema works that realize the production the spatial and temporal indicators through structuring. This study has investigated the ways in which chronotopes are used in films which affect the formation of the characters in the cinema adapted novels of Orhan Kemal who can reflect the cultural notions of the given time periods and who describe his characters in relation to the places they take in societal living. Keywords: Chronotope, Mihail Bahtin, narrative, time-space, author-character relationship, Orhan Kemal, cinema.
