Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to identify the ornithofauna of the Edremit Marsh, located within the boundaries of Edremit District of Van Province. As a result of one year of field observations and research, the bird species present in the area throughout the year and during specific seasons, as well as their population statuses, were determined. Based on the fieldwork carried out over four seasons, 85 bird species belonging to 12 Orders and 27 Families were recorded. According to the conservation statuses defined by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the White-headed Duck (Oxyura leucocephala) and the Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus) were categorized as Endangered (EN). The European Roller (Coracias garrulus), Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata), Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa), and Armenian Gull (Larus armenicus) were classified as Near Threatened (NT). The Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) was found to be in the Vulnerable (VU) category, while the remaining 77 species were assessed as Least Concern (LC). Of the bird species identified in the area, 15 were resident, 63 were summer visitor migrants, and 7 species were categorized as accidental or irregular visitors. Located on the shores of Lake Van, the district of Edremit serves as an important recreational area socially. The Edremit Marsh contributes to this social structure by providing a biologically rich and truly natural environment.
