Abstract (EN)

In this study obesity was investigated for serum leptin, malondialdehyde (MDA), and reduced glutathione (GSH), along with the lipid profile. The study included fifty obese people and controlled with fifty healthy lean people with similar ages. The results have shown a significant higher body mass index (BMI) in obese people compared to lean people. Leptin and MDA were elevated significantly in the serum of obese people compared to lean control, while the level of serum GSH was reduced significantly. Triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL, and VLDL were significantly higher but HDL was significantly lower in obese people compared to lean control. Furthermore, obese people have shown positive correlation between leptin and BMI, between MDA and triglycerides, between MDA and VLDL, and negative correlation between MDA and HDL. Leptin, MDA and GSH were showed excellent sensitivities in the prognosis of obesity. This indicates a progressive oxidative stress in obese people
